Today’s Social Innovation Spotlight episode is about Vote Monitor, a digital tool developed by Code for Romania that helps election observers report incidents in real time.
Instead of relying on paper reports and delayed communication, observers can send structured data, photos and videos instantly, even without internet. NGOs receive this information immediately and can respond while voting is still ongoing.
Swipe to see the results:
- 80–85% faster reporting to the public
- 5–6 times more frequent updates throughout the voting day
- 70% faster NGO-to-observer communication
- 110,000+ violations reported by 7,500+ observers
Used in 14 countries across multiple election rounds, this initiative shows how technology can strengthen democratic processes in practice.
