Madrid Declaration: 19 countries – One message to Brussels: social innovation belongs in the UE budget

Croatia, Italy, Slovenia, Romania, and Greece – we are proud that all five National Competence Centres in our consortium have signed the joint call for stronger recognition and funding of social innovation in the EU Multiannual Financial Framework 2028-2034.

The Madrid Declaration now carries the signatures of 84 organisations from 19 European countries with a clear message for the EU negotiators: social innovation needs explicit recognition, visible funding pathways, and structural support for the ecosystems that make it work.

If you work in social innovation, if you believe that communities deserve better tools than standard programmes can offer, there is something concrete you can do right now: 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐜𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐌𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐄𝐮𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐃𝐞𝐜𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧.

  • Ask them to support the recognition of social innovation as a transversal delivery approach in the MFF 2028-2034.
  • Ask them to ensure the European Social Fund preserves dedicated space for experimentation and scaling.
  • Ask them to make sure the next EU budget reflects the complexity of the challenges Europe faces.

The window is open. Your MEP’s voice in this process matters more than most people realise.
