Social Innovation Spotlight: How to turn a semi-abandoned garden into a community hub

In this episode, we turn the spotlight on RI-CREIAMO, a community-led project in Barriera di Milano, one of the most socially and economically marginalised districts in Turin. The project transforms the semi-abandoned Giorgio Amendola public gardens into an inclusive space for culture, well-being and social connection.

Through a participatory co-design process involving local residents, artists, universities and social organisations, the space becomes a community hub for connection, participation and environmental awareness.

The garden hosts three main thematic areas:

  • Health & Well-being, including gardening and dance workshops
  • Arts & Culture, including open-air cinema, theatre and youth-made short films
  • Social Inclusion, including a community bread oven and cultural festivals
