Local culture can play a powerful role in a just work transition.
In a region facing job losses, youth outmigration and the transition away from lignite, the EcoZani initiative uses the city’s Carnival to activate skills, innovation and community participation.
By transforming the Carnival into a Zero-waste, Zero-emission and Zero-exclusion event, the initiative brings together young people, local businesses and public institutions to test new ideas around sustainability and inclusion, and turn them into long-term support structures.
