Cross-Consortia Learning Exchange on Policy: 5 barriers to NCCs’ collaboration with authorities

Not all countries support social innovation in the same way. Some have strong policies and thriving ecosystems, but others are just getting started.

On 24 April, during the Cross-Consortia Learning Exchange on Policy Engagement for Social Innovation (NCCs), social innovators from across Europe came together to share key challenges in engaging with local and regional authorities.

Five critical obstacles were identified:

  • Regional and local authorities are slow in getting engaged with SI practices
  • Community engagement is considered too time-consuming
  • The creation of a solid database is not a priority
  • Weak effort to overcome the silo effect between public services
  • Communication strategies do not succeed in making SI popular

These insights highlight how important it is to build stronger bridges between policy, practice, and community in social innovation.
