The Alma Mater Studiorum – Università di Bologna, the oldest university in the Western world, paves the way for innovation through an increasingly rich programme catalogue, cutting-edge research and a constant and increasingly broad international perspective. Thanks to its scientific excellence and a central Project Management support working closely, UNIBO has gained a considerable experience in International and European research projects, successfully participated in FP7: with 274 projects funded in 2007-2013 and 87,8 M€ of funding, UNIBO is the second Italian university for the attractiveness of European funding for research, 37st in the European ranking of institutions of higher education.
In Horizon 2020, UNIBO ranked among the top three European institutions in terms of number of projects financed in the area of social sciences and humanities. The Economics Department (DSE) of the University of Bologna (Unibo) is committed to scientific excellence in research, as well as undergraduate and graduate education. According to the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2023, the DSE is among the top 100 Economics departments in the world, the top 30 in Europe, and is the top-ranked public institution in Italy. The teaching staff, post-doctoral fellows, master’s and doctoral students come from every country of the European Union, as well as from elsewhere. The placement of our recent PhD graduates has also been very successful. The department has been awarded the prize of Department of Excellence by the Italian Ministry of Research (2023-27) in recognition of the quality of the research and of the projects conducted.
